Urgent- support needed- Palestine Demo this Friday 18th July- West Sussex County Council Hall, Chichester

WS-Divest and Worthing Palestine Coalition invite you to an urgent demo on the steps of WSCC Chichester County Hall on Friday 18th July at 1pm.

 

The West Sussex County Council’s pension fund invests in 10 companies that:

  1. support Israel’s genocide
  2. support Israel’s illegal occupation of Palestinian land

At the next WSCC full council meeting on 18th July, the Labour group will challenge the Tory majority and Chair of the Pensions Committee, aimed at winning acceptance of the divestment resolution, originally passed in Lewisham.

WS-Divest and Portsmouth Resistance Collective have joined forces in the past months to raise public awareness of the Council’s investment policy by collecting signautres calling for divestment. 1500 people have signed which demonstrates a demand for Council to scrap their toxic investments.

 

 

The Labour group have agreed to give us the opportunity for all our voices to be heard.

Come and support us!  Stop by and say hello or hand out leaflets, no experience needed.  We may also have petitions or information about other actions you can take to support Palestine.  We look forward to seeing you there.

Send a BDS petition to your councillors

Please take part in our PSC national action for boycott and divestment concerning local government pension funds. This requires signing this digital petition which will be sent to your specific appropriate councillors. The work has been done for you. Unanimous Council Vote for Ceasefire

FANTASTIC RESULT. WELL DONE!!
Thank you to everyone who supported the vigil today at Worthing Town Hall.
We presented our Deputation and it was passed by a unanimous vote, and met with applause inside the Council chamber.
The Deputation request called on the Council to stand with humanity and publicly lobby the Prime Minister and Foreign Secretary to call for:
– An immediate, permanent ceasefire
– Unfettered access to humanitarian aid in Gaza
– Release of all hostages
– Compliance with the International Court of Justice ruling and with international humanitarian law.
A silent vigil was held outside Worthing Town Hall before the Council meeting, to remember more than 12,300 children who have been killed in Gaza so far – this is more than 1.5 times the entire primary school population of Worthing.
Children’s shoes, teddy bears and banners lined the steps of the Town Hall and over 80 local residents attended to show their support.
This is really great and increases the pressure hopefully also on Worthing MPs to act and support the Parliamentary vote tomorrow. If you can, please do email Bottomley or Loughten again before Feb 21st and let them know this happened, demonstrating the local council support for a ceasefire (from both Labour and Tories).
